OceanUQ Summer School

The Ocean Uncertainty Quantification (OceanUQ) Summer School was held from July 15-19, 2024, at the University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Sciences. The summer school brought together the next-generation of physical oceanographers, climate scientists, and data scientists with best practices for improving the undertaking, derivation, and utilization of the uncertainties of ocean data. Participants also got hands-on experience applying techniques to better understand, quantify, and report uncertainties in physical oceanographic data.

The following resources from the summer school are available as educational resources for the wider research community.

Lectures

Lecture recordings and slides covering a wide range of topics, such as essential statistics for uncertainty quantification, time series analysis, mapping, observations, data assimilation, and machine learning.

Coding and Hands-On Activities

Instructional materials and tutorials designed to reinforce and apply lecture topics to real-world examples. Activities include comparing sea surface temperature products, analyzing ocean heat content, and exploring machine learning and data assimilation techniques.
